UAE-based steelmaker Arabian Gulf Steel Industries (AGSI) has officially started commercial production at its new rebar rolling mill, HRM 3, in Abu Dhabi.

The new facility adds 600,000 metric tons of annual rolling capacity, significantly expanding the company’s production footprint.

With the launch of HRM 3, AGSI’s total installed rolling capacity has increased from around 640,000 tons per year to 1.24 million tons per year.

Net-Zero Steel Focus

HRM 3 is directly connected to AGSI’s meltshop through a hot-charging system, allowing molten steel to move directly into rolling operations.

The company said the integration will:

  • Lower energy consumption
  • Improve operational efficiency
  • Support production of net-zero steel rebar

Further Expansion Ahead

AGSI is also upgrading HRM 1, with commissioning expected in the second quarter of 2026.

Once completed:

  • HRM 1 capacity will rise from 400,000 tons to 800,000 tons annually
  • Total AGSI rolling capacity is projected to reach 1.64 million tons per year

Most production from HRM 3 will serve the UAE domestic market, with limited volumes allocated for exports depending on regional demand.
