US exports of cold finished bar climbed 14.9% in May 2025, reaching 8,770 metric tons (mt), according to the latest data from the US Department of Commerce. Despite the monthly gain, this figure marks a 23.1% decline year-over-year compared to May 2024.
In terms of value, exports totaled $24.2 million in May, up from $21.4 million in April, but still below the $29.0 million recorded in May 2024.
Mexico remained the top destination, importing 3,994 mt of cold finished bar, up from 3,376 mt in April and slightly above the 3,947 mt shipped in May last year. Canada followed closely, receiving 3,723 mt during the month.
There were no other countries importing more than 1,000 mt of US cold finished bar in May, underscoring the dominant role of North American trade partners in this product category.
