German steel producer ROGESA has commenced a 55-day maintenance shutdown of its Blast Furnace No. 4, starting on May 21. The decision was made earlier than planned due to accelerated wear of the furnace’s lining.
The maintenance, carried out by SMS Group, includes a complete renewal of the lining and installation of advanced wear monitoring systems. These upgrades aim to enhance the furnace’s safety, efficiency, and longevity.
Despite a minor fire incident on the slag granulation unit’s conveyor during the shutdown, there were no casualties, and the repair schedule remains unaffected. ROGESA’s timely modernization efforts are crucial for sustaining pig iron supply to regional steelmakers.
