Kazakhstan has announced a ban on the export of semi-finished steel products, reinforcing efforts to support its domestic steel industry and regulate outbound flows of raw materials. The ban is intended to ensure that local manufacturers have adequate access to intermediate steel goods, particularly in the face of rising demand within the country.

The government has increasingly focused on developing value-added production within Kazakhstan, moving away from being a raw material exporter. By curbing exports of semi-finished products, authorities aim to strengthen domestic capacity for finished steel goods, improve profitability, and stimulate job creation in downstream sectors such as construction and machinery.

This move also aligns with regional trade protection measures amid global uncertainties in the steel market. With international prices and tariffs in flux, Kazakhstan is taking proactive steps to safeguard its industrial ecosystem and avoid potential supply disruptions.
