India — Jindal Steel Limited (JSL) has contracted Primetals Technologies to carry out a major automation upgrade for its 5-meter plate mill in Odisha, marking the first large-scale implementation of Siemens’ Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) platform in India’s steel sector.
The modernization will include SIMATIC S7-1500 control systems, the latest WinCC software, and full virtualization of all servers, enhancing operational reliability and making future upgrades easier.
JSP’s plate mill has an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, producing plates 5–350 mm thick and 900–4,800 mm wide. The upgrade aims to reduce downtime, improve production stability, and increase efficiency, with ramp-up expected in Q1 2026.
