Brazil’s Heavy Plate Exports Nearly Double in July, Driven by US Demand

Brazil’s heavy plate exports surged to 30,800 mt in July, up from 15,900 mt in June, according to SISCOMEX.

• South America: 13,100 mt at $882/mt FOB

Export Breakdown by Producer

• Usiminas: 22,600 mt at $812/mt

• Gerdau: 7,800 mt at $685/mt

• ArcelorMittal: 400 mt at $604/mt

Import Activity Remains Stable

Brazil imported 4,900 mt of heavy plates in July, slightly up from 4,700 mt in June. Sources included:

• Asia: 4,200 mt — of which 4,000 mt came from China at $548/mt.

• Europe: 700 mt at $1,548/mt.

The strong month-on-month export growth was mainly fueled by robust US demand, while imports stayed relatively steady.
