Brazil’s Foreign Trade Chamber (GECEX) has announced the extension of antidumping duties on imports of flat rolled silicon steel (non-oriented grain, or NOG steel) from Germany, China, South Korea, and Taiwan, following a review of longstanding trade measures.

The duties will remain in place for up to five more years, aiming to protect domestic producers from unfairly priced imports.

The original antidumping measures were imposed in 2013 after an investigation prompted by local steelmaker Aperam Inox South America, which claimed injury from dumped imports.

The updated duties will be charged per metric ton as follows:

  • China: $90.00/mt to $166.00/mt

  • South Korea: $132.50/mt to $166.00/mt

  • Taiwan: $90.00/mt to $166.32/mt

  • Germany: $166.32/mt

These products—commonly referred to as magnetic steels—are critical in manufacturing electric motors and transformers. The decision reflects Brazil’s ongoing efforts to ensure fair competition and support its domestic steel industry.
