Blastr Green Steel, a Norwegian developer focused on decarbonized steel, has successfully received environmental approval for its planned low-emission steel plant in Inkoo, Finland. The project has now moved forward to the permit process following a successful completion of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

The proposed plant, with an annual production capacity of 2.5 million metric tons, will utilize local raw materials and carbon-free energy to produce cost-competitive, ultra-low-emission steel. This move aligns with global climate goals by significantly reducing carbon emissions compared to traditional steel production.

Antti Kaikkonen, Blastr Green Steel's country manager for Finland, highlighted the importance of the EIA process, saying, "This has been a significant undertaking, involving thorough and long-term preparation. Over two years of work have gone into these assessments with a large team of experts, while simultaneously advancing the project through detailed technical planning."

The Inkoo steel mill will replace traditional coal use with clean hydrogen in its production process, marking a critical step in reducing industrial carbon footprints. In addition to its environmental benefits, the project is expected to create significant economic opportunities in Inkoo and the Western Uusimaa region, including job creation and new investments.

Blastr Green Steel’s plant is set to become a key player in the shift toward a greener steel industry, with its focus on sustainability and technological innovation.
