Bangladesh's Bashundhara Multi Steel Industries Limited (BMSIL) is set to establish the world’s largest single strand mini mill for long steel production, making it the country's first producer of rebar and wire rod. The new mill, located at the National Special Economic Zone in Chattogram, is expected to commence production by mid-2026.

Once operational, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 1.25 million metric tons of rebar and wire rod, positioning BMSIL as a significant player in the local steel industry. The project will also create over 3,000 jobs upon its completion, providing a boost to the local economy.

The initial cost of the project was estimated at BDT 37 billion ($304.32 million), but due to the weakening of the local currency, the cost is now projected to rise to BDT 47 billion ($386.57 million). This major development will not only help reduce production costs but also significantly contribute to the country’s steel supply, reducing its dependence on imports.
