ArcelorMittal Europe - Flat Products, a subsidiary of the Luxembourg-headquartered steel giant ArcelorMittal, has announced a strategic partnership with Siemens Energy to provide high-grade steel solutions for energy transition infrastructure.
This collaboration aims to meet the growing demand for steel with excellent magnetic permeability, strong thermal conductivity, and very low energy losses—key characteristics required in the energy transition sector. The partnership comes in response to rising power demands driven by economic growth, particularly in Asia and the global south, as well as the explosion in data and artificial intelligence (AI), which is increasing global energy needs.
According to Andreas Konschak, General Manager at Siemens Energy, "The steel characteristics we require are excellent magnetic permeability, strong thermal conductivity, very low energy losses, together with the availability of a wide range of coatings. ArcelorMittal is able to supply all the grades and coatings we need, and we know their R&D teams are constantly working on new solutions to make their electrical steels even more efficient."
Further strengthening their capabilities, ArcelorMittal plans to ramp up production of electrical steels at its Mardyck facility in France. The plant's additional capacity of 300,000 metric tons per annum will ensure a reliable supply to Siemens Energy, supporting their growth and development in Erfurt and other key regions.
This collaboration highlights the importance of innovative steel solutions in decarbonization efforts and energy transition infrastructure, positioning both companies at the forefront of a sustainable energy future.
