US imports of cold rolled coil (CRC) declined by 9.5% in April compared to the previous month, according to preliminary data from the US Department of Commerce.

Total CRC imports amounted to 106,012 metric tons in April, down from March and marking a sharp 28.6% decline year over year.

In terms of value, CRC imports were worth $104.2 million in April, down from $133.4 million in March and $164.7 million in April 2023.

Canada remained the top CRC supplier, though its exports to the US also declined:

  • 34,026 mt in April, down from 35,869 mt in March and 48,022 mt in April 2023.

Other notable sources of CRC imports in April included:

  • Mexico: 9,259 mt

  • Vietnam: 2,181 mt

  • Australia: 18,635 mt

  • South Korea: 5,165 mt

The downward trend reflects softening demand and potentially increased domestic production competitiveness.
