The Parliamentary Committee on Economic Development of Ukraine has appealed to the government to initiate a postponement of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) for Ukraine. They propose that the exemption should apply until the end of the war and for five years afterward.

Deputy Chairman Dmytro Kysylevskyi emphasized the need for special CBAM conditions for Ukraine during martial law and the subsequent recovery period. The committee’s appeal aligns with previous requests from Ukrainian business associations concerned about the economic impact of CBAM.

Studies suggest that CBAM could hinder Ukraine’s economic recovery and modernization plans. Projections estimate export losses of $1.8 billion by 2030 if the mechanism is implemented without adjustments for Ukraine’s unique circumstances.
