The European Parliament has outlined strict conditions for reducing tariffs on US products במסגרת an ongoing EU-US trade agreement, linking any tariff cuts to full compliance by the United States.
Under the proposed framework, tariff reductions will only take effect if the US meets agreed commitments, including lowering tariffs on EU products containing steel and aluminum to a maximum of 15%.
Lawmakers have introduced a “sunrise clause”, ensuring conditional implementation, as well as a suspension mechanism that allows the EU to withdraw trade preferences if the US imposes additional tariffs, discriminates against EU companies, or engages in economic coercion.
Additionally, a “sunset clause” sets an expiration date of March 31, 2028, after which any extension would require a new legislative process.
The European Commission will also monitor import volumes and may act if a surge in US imports threatens EU industries.
