Shandong Aipurui Steel Plate Co. Ltd, a leading Chinese steel company, has announced plans to build a $120 million steel processing plant in Uzbekistan’s Ferghana region. The project is set to create 500 new jobs and will be implemented in three stages.
The steel plant will be constructed in the Tarakkiyot industrial zone in the Toshlok district. The facility is designed to produce high-quality processed metal products for both the domestic market and export, catering to growing demand in the region and abroad.
The first stage of the plant is expected to begin operations in October this year, marking a significant milestone in the region’s industrial development.
Khairullo Bozorov, the governor of the Ferghana region, confirmed that the project is progressing rapidly. Authorities are also exploring additional joint infrastructure projects around the plant to further boost the area’s economic development.
In a related development, last fall, Kazakhstan’s Qarmet (formerly ArcelorMittal Temirtau) and China’s Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes Co. agreed to establish a $161 million plant in Kazakhstan to produce high-strength nodular cast iron pipes, with a capacity of 200,000 tons per year. The pipes are intended for use in housing and utilities infrastructure projects across Kazakhstan.
Moreover, Qarmet has entered into a $1 billion long-term cooperation agreement with China Metallurgical Group Corporation in the mining and metallurgical industries, signaling further growth in regional industrial collaborations.
