Argentina's crude steel production reached 350,300 metric tons in May, marking a 12.3% increase compared to May 2024, according to data released by the Argentine chamber of the steel industry (Acero Argentino – AA). This also reflects a 10.4% rise from April 2025, when production stood at 317,400 mt.
Among finished products, performance was mixed on a month-over-month basis:

Hot-rolled coil (HRC) production declined 4.8%, totaling 183,400 mt

Cold-rolled coil (CRC) output rose 13.4% to 115,800 mt

Long products production climbed 5.9% to 148,400 mt
Compared to May 2024, however, all major product categories saw significant growth:

CRC output rose 42.6%

Long products production increased 20.4%
Sector Highlights:

The civil construction sector continues to show low activity levels, according to AA.

The automotive industry posted a 26% increase in output year-on-year, signaling a strong recovery.

The machinery and equipment sector reported robust demand, largely driven by the agriculture harvest season and positive planting forecasts. However, local producers are concerned about increased imports of used machinery from Brazil and China, which are undermining domestic manufacturing.

In the home appliances market, demand is showing early signs of recovery, supported by the expansion of consumer credit lines.
