Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Malaysia’s state-owned energy giant Petronas has announced a strategic partnership with local natural gas supplier Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC) to enhance the supply of natural gas for Sabah's industrial and energy needs. Under the newly signed agreement, Petronas will supply an additional 104 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of natural gas, bringing the total supply to SEC to 370 MMscfd.
As part of this agreement, SEC will allocate 150 MMscfd of the supplied gas to Esteel Enterprise Sabah Sdn Bhd, a steel manufacturer based in Sabah. This allocation is aimed at supporting Esteel’s steel production operations while advancing its efforts to implement more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in the steelmaking process.
The collaboration marks a significant step toward bolstering Malaysia’s green steel production capabilities, helping to reduce the carbon footprint of the steel industry and contributing to the country’s broader sustainability goals.
