The Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) has issued its final ruling on the antidumping (AD) investigation into tinplate imports with widths of 600 mm or more from China, India, Japan, and South Korea.

Following a detailed investigation, MITI concluded that the imports were causing material injury to Malaysia’s domestic tinplate industry. As a result, the ministry has imposed definitive antidumping duties as follows:

  • China: 4.48% to 20.42%

  • Japan: 15.74% to 36.80%

  • South Korea: 21.60% to 35.43%

  • India: 27.88%

These final duties are largely in line with the preliminary findings, which had estimated dumping margins of 2.52–18.18% for China, 27.88% for India, 36.80% for Japan, and 28.66–35.43% for South Korea, as previously reported by SteelOrbis.

The decision underscores Malaysia's commitment to safeguarding its domestic manufacturing sector against unfair trade practices, particularly as global steel and tinplate markets face increasing volatility.

The duties are expected to take effect immediately and will remain in place for a period determined by MITI to ensure a level playing field for local producers.
