France-based steel plate producer Industeel, part of the ArcelorMittal Group, has supplied high-performance steel plates for the ongoing construction of Spain’s iconic Sagrada Familia basilica.
The plates will be used in new structural elements on the Glory Façade, the tallest and most prominent façade of the landmark building in Barcelona.
Industeel supplied Duplex UR 2205 stainless steel plates in thicknesses ranging from 8 mm to 100 mm.
According to the company, the material offers:
- High mechanical strength
- Strong corrosion resistance
- Long-term durability for exposed structures
- Weight efficiency through higher strength-to-thickness ratios
The Sagrada Familia project, originally designed by Antoni Gaudí, continues to incorporate modern engineering materials as construction progresses.
Industeel said the project highlights the growing role of advanced steel in major architectural developments.
