Erdemir Commits to Green Transformation with $3.2 Billion Investment

Turkish steelmaker Erdemir has announced a comprehensive plan to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, committing $3.2 billion towards green transformation initiatives. The company aims to reduce carbon emissions by 25% by 2030 and 40% by 2040.

Key projects include the development of solar power plants generating 1.71 million MWh annually, the use of biomass as an alternative fuel, and the implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. Erdemir has also modernized its facilities, commissioning a new blast furnace and coke oven battery.

These efforts align with Turkey’s broader environmental goals and position Erdemir as a leader in sustainable steel production. The company’s investments are expected to enhance competitiveness and contribute to global decarbonization efforts.
