Brazil maintained its export volume of heavy steel plates in June, shipping a total of 15,900 metric tons (mt) — the same level as recorded in May, according to the country’s foreign trade system SISCOMEX.

The bulk of exports went to the United States and South American markets. Specifically:

  • 8,800 mt were sent to the U.S. at an average price of $589/mt FOB

  • 7,100 mt went to South American countries at a higher average price of $941/mt FOB

Among the main exporters:

  • Gerdau led with 8,800 mt exported at $589/mt

  • Usiminas followed with 7,000 mt at $939/mt

  • CSN, ArcelorMittal, and various traders contributed smaller volumes

On the import side, Brazil significantly increased its purchases of heavy plates, bringing in 4,700 mt in June, up from just 1,400 mt in May. These imports came from:

  • China, supplying 4,400 mt at $625/mt

  • Europe, sending 300 mt at a much higher $1,260/mt

This jump in imports could reflect increased domestic demand or competitive pricing trends in global steel markets.
