Australia's Antidumping Commission has initiated an expiry review of antidumping duties on rod in coil imports from China, amid concerns that removing the current measures could lead to renewed injury to the domestic industry.
The review was requested by Australian steelmaker InfraBuild, which argues that lifting the duties could result in a resurgence of unfairly priced Chinese imports. The investigation period covers April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
Current antidumping duties of 33.1%, originally imposed in April 2016, are scheduled to expire on April 22, 2026, unless extended following the review.
The Antidumping Commission will assess whether dumping and material injury to the local industry are likely to continue or recur if the duties are lifted. A final recommendation is expected by October 21, 2025, and will be submitted to the Minister for Industry, Science and Technology.
The products under review are rod in coil with a diameter less than 14 mm, classified under tariff codes 7213.91.00.44 and 7227.90.90.02 in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
