Vietnam’s Steel Imports Rise 14.8% in April, Scrap Imports Also Increase

Vietnam’s steel imports recorded strong month-on-month growth in April 2026, according to data released by Vietnam’s customs authorities.

In April, Vietnam imported 1.43 million metric tons of steel, representing an increase of 14.8 percent compared to March.

At the same time, scrap imports reached 641,118 metric tons, up 15.3 percent month on month.

However, on a cumulative basis, steel imports remained slightly lower compared to last year. During the January–April 2026 period:

  • Steel imports totaled 5.04 million mt, down 1.2 percent year on year
  • Scrap imports reached 2.13 million mt, up 4.6 percent year on year

The latest figures indicate stable raw material demand amid continued activity in Vietnam’s manufacturing and construction sectors.
