US steel exports increased in March 2026, supported by stronger shipments to key North American markets, according to new export data from the US Department of Commerce.
Total steel exports in March reached 596,679 metric tons, up 6 percent compared to February, although still down 6.2 percent year on year.
In value terms, exports rose to $1.14 billion, compared to $1.05 billion in February.
Mexico remained the largest export destination for US steel:
- Exports to Mexico reached 373,744 mt, up 4.4 percent month on month and 14.8 percent year on year
- Exports to Canada totaled 188,560 mt, rising 10.1 percent from February but declining 27.5 percent year on year
Other major export destinations included:
- Australia: 2,489 mt
- India: 2,109 mt
- Brazil: 2,033 mt
Top steel products exported in March included:
- Hot-dip galvanized steel (HDG): 111,850 mt
- Cold rolled sheets: 68,586 mt
- Cut-length steel plate: 67,570 mt
- Hot rolled sheets: 53,666 mt
