Ukrainian Businesses Urge Government to Address CBAM Threat

Ukrainian industrial associations are calling on the government to urgently request a postponement of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) implementation for Ukraine. They warn that without action, Ukraine could lose a significant portion of its exports to the EU as early as 2026.

Organizations like the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and the Federation of Employers of Ukraine emphasize that the CBAM, without considering wartime factors, poses a direct threat to the competitiveness of Ukrainian exports. They estimate potential export losses of $1.8 billion in 2026.

These associations have been actively engaging with government officials since August 2023, urging the Cabinet of Ministers to appeal to the EU for a delay in CBAM application, especially considering the ongoing conflict and economic challenges.
