Cherepovets, Russia — Severstal has completed installation of the world’s largest dry grinding ball mills at its Cherepovets steel plant, each measuring 6.7 meters in diameter and over 13 meters in length. The mills are part of a new 10 million tonnes/year pellet production complex, which will significantly increase the company’s self-sufficiency in raw materials.
The project is over 30% complete, with assembly of roasting machines, pelletizers, vertical mills, and conveyor systems underway. Once operational in the second half of 2026, the new facility will replace outdated sintering units, lowering emissions and improving energy efficiency as part of Severstal’s environmental strategy.
