American steelmaker Nucor has reduced its weekly spot price (CSP) for hot-rolled coil (HRC) for the second consecutive week, bringing offers for August 11–17, 2025 down by $15/t (-1.7%) to $875 per short ton.

This price applies to all production facilities except California Steel Industries (CSI), where the offer stands at $935/t (-1.6%). Order lead times are currently estimated at 3–5 weeks.

Market Context

  • The maximum HRC price in 2025 was reached on March 24 at $935/t ($995/t for CSI) and held until April 13.

  • Last week, U.S. spot HRC prices ranged between $770–$890/t (SMU), while Kallanish reported $860–$880/t as of August 8.

  • Prices have been trending lower since early summer, with market participants expecting a bottom in August–September before a potential rebound in September–October.

Outlook

The anticipated price recovery later this year could be driven by demand from infrastructure and energy projects as the market emerges from the summer slowdown.
