Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), together with the Ministry of Finance, has launched an anti-dumping investigation into hot-dip galvanized (HDG) steel imports from China and South Korea, following a petition filed on April 28 by major domestic producers—Nippon Steel, Kobe Steel, and others Reuters.
The probe targets construction-related HDG steel sheets, coils, and strips, excluding imports from Hong Kong and Macau. It aims to conclude within one year, at which point officials will decide whether to impose anti-dumping duties Reuters.
Tadashi Imai, head of the Japan Iron and Steel Federation and president of Nippon Steel, emphasized that the investigation is in line with WTO rules and addresses the growing threat posed by low-cost foreign imports placing pressure on Japan’s domestic steel industry
