Indian stainless steel producers have submitted a petition to the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) seeking the imposition of antidumping (AD) duties on low-priced imports that are allegedly harming local manufacturers, Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said in a statement on Monday, August 11.

The petition, filed by the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) on behalf of domestic producers, calls for investigations into dumping from select countries. The industry is now awaiting a formal response from the DGTR.

According to Jindal, the DGTR typically takes two to three months to initiate an investigation.

“For a very long time we have been suffering from substandard dumped material from countries like China, Vietnam, and Indonesia, and we now face even greater uncertainties after the US imposed 50% tariffs on imports from India,” Jindal stated.

India’s stainless steel imports in FY 2024–25 are estimated at 1.73 million metric tons.
