IIT Mumbai and John Cockerill Group Partner to Drive Steel Industry Decarbonization

In a significant step towards sustainability, John Cockerill Group from Belgium and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on advancing steel decarbonization technology, the green hydrogen value chain, and the development of defence products. The partnership, announced on March 24, aims to combine IIT Bombay's academic excellence with John Cockerill's engineering expertise to drive innovation in these critical sectors.

The collaboration will focus on joint research into technologies that can help decarbonize the steel industry, with an emphasis on achieving sustainability and reducing carbon emissions in steel production. Additionally, the partnership will explore the green hydrogen value chain, including its production, storage, transportation, and usage, positioning both organizations as key players in the global transition to greener industries.

Looking forward, the partnership envisions the creation of Centres of Excellence dedicated to advancing steel technologies, defence products, and the green hydrogen value chain, further bolstering efforts to address the evolving needs of industries worldwide.
