China’s steel industry is on track to achieve ultra-low emissions for 80% of its production capacity by the end of 2025. As of April, approximately 591 million tons of capacity have met full ultra-low emission standards, with an additional 169 million tons partially compliant.
The initiative includes stringent emission limits throughout the production process and integration into the national carbon trading market. China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment has also published technical specifications for ultra-low emission engineering in the steel industry.
These efforts reflect China’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its goal to peak carbon emissions before 2030. The steel sector’s transformation is a significant component of the country’s broader decarbonization strategy.
