Blastr Green Steel has achieved a significant milestone for its proposed low-emission steel plant in Inkoo, Finland, by successfully completing the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process. This accomplishment propels the project into the permitting phase, marking a crucial step toward sustainable steel production.

Key Highlights:

  • Production Capacity: The Inkoo facility is designed to produce 2.5 million tons of ultra-low-emission steel annually.

  • Innovative Processes: By utilizing pure hydrogen instead of coal and sourcing raw materials produced with clean energy, the plant aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions compared to traditional steel manufacturing methods.

  • Economic Impact: The project is expected to positively influence the local economy by creating employment opportunities and attracting investments to the region.

Antti Kaikkonen, Blastr Green Steel’s Country Manager for Finland, emphasized the extensive efforts over more than two years, involving a team of experts and detailed technical planning, to achieve this milestone.

In February, the company completed a second round of partnership financing, with participation from both founding and new investors based in Finland. The funds are earmarked for developing Blastr’s value chain, including the Inkoo steel plant and a pelletizing facility projected to produce 6 million tons of direct reduction raw materials annually.

This development underscores Blastr Green Steel's commitment to advancing environmentally friendly steel production and contributing to the global shift toward sustainable industrial practices.
